GRASSROOTS SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
In order to expand the mandate of the National sports commission and align it with global best practices, the Grassroots sports development department of the NSC was created by the letter from the office of the Head of service of the Federation OHCSF/MSO/592/110 on the 3rd June 2009. To ensure strict compliance to the approved structure, the letter also specified the schedule of duties for the then six departments and five units in the commission.
FUNCTIONS OF THE GRSD
The Main duties and responsibilities of the Grassroots Sports Development (GRSD) Department are:
(i) Initiate policies on grassroots sports development in the country
(ii) Serve as linkage between the Commission and Grassroots to scout, and select talents for the national team.
(iii) Identify and Develop talents:
(iv) Plan , Organize and coordinate the National Sports Festival
(v) Develop and take charge of all institutional schools and collegiate sports activities:
(vi) Encourage mass participation of the citizenry in sporting activities
(vii) Coordinate the activities of the Zonal Offices.
